French Realist Painter , 1796-1875 French painter, draughtsman and printmaker. After a classical education at the Coll?ge de Rouen, where he did not distinguish himself, and an unsuccessful apprenticeship with two drapers, Corot was allowed to devote himself to painting at the age of 26. He was given some money that had been intended for his sister, who had died in 1821, and this, together with what we must assume was his family's continued generosity, freed him from financial worries and from having to sell his paintings to earn a living. Corot chose to follow a modified academic course of training. He did not enrol in the Ecole des Beaux-Arts but studied instead with Achille Etna Michallon and, after Michallon's death in 1822, with Jean-Victor Bertin. Morten Muller
(13 February 1828 - 10 February 1911) was a Norwegian landscape painter. Morten Muller was born in Holmestrand, in Vestfold County, Norway. Morten Miller began his art studies with Adolph Tidemand and Hans Gude in Desseldorf, Germany from 1847 to 1848. From 1850 he was again a student at the Art Academy in Desseldorf, with Johann Wilhelm Schirmer as a teacher. From 1850-51, Muller painted with the Swedish landscape painter Marcus Larson in Stockholm. From 1866 to 1873, Morten Muller lived in Oslo, where he taught together with Knud Bergslien, first at the art school operated by Johan Fredrik Eckersberg. Later he continued working with Knud Bergslien at the Bergslien school of Art. From 1875, when Muller returned to Desseldorf, where he lived the rest of his life. Among his landscape motifs are fjords and pine forests. He is represented with several works in the National Gallery of Norway. In 1875, Morten Muller was appointed as a painter to the Swedish Royal Court. He was knighted into the Order of Vasa in 1869 and in 1874 became an honorary member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts in Stockholm.
Marco Ricci
(5 June 1676 - 1730) was an Italian painter of the Baroque period. He was the nephew of Sebastiano Ricci. After receiving his first instruction in art from his uncle, he visited Rome, where he was for some years occupied in drawing vedute. Ricci was born at Belluno. In 1710 he came to England with his uncle, and his vedute of ruins and architecture (capricci) found many patrons. Marco Ricci etched several plates from his own designs, consisting of views and landscapes, with ruins and figures, including a set of twenty-three prints, entitled Varia Marci Ricci Pictoris priestantissimi experimenta ab ipsomet auctore inventa, delineata atque incisa, et a me Carolo Orsolini Veneto incisore in unum collecta, c. Anno 1730, Venetiis. He died in Venice.
Helene Schjerfbeck
Finnish Painter, 1862-1946 .Finnish painter. In 1873 she began to study at the Finnish Art Society drawing school in Helsinki. On the death of her father in 1876, she was forced to seek help to finance her studies. In 1877 she went to the private academy of Adolf von Becker (1831-1909) in Helsinki, and her work was first shown in public in 1879. In the autumn of 1880 she went to Paris to study at the Academie Trelat de Vigne under Leon Bonnat and Jean-Leon Gereme and in 1881 moved to the Academie Colarossi, studying under Gustave Courtois ( fl 1852-1908) and Raphael Collin (1850-1916). In Brittany that summer, she painted a large oil, A Boy Feeding his Little Sister
